You've been told
so maybe it's time that you learned
You've been sold
Maybe it's time that you earned
I can't stand it
You're fooling around
I can't stand it
You're running around
I won't stand it
You're fooling around with my heart
I'll explain
I feel like I'm being used
Make it plain
So you don't get confused
I can't stand it
You're fooling around
I won't stand it
You're running around
I can't stand it
You're fooling around with my heart
I can't stand it
You're running around
I can't stand it
You're fooling around
I can't stand it
You're playing around with my heart
it was time
Time for me to let you know
Ain't no crime
No crime to let your feelings show
I can't stand it
You're running around
I can't stand it
You're playing around
I won't stand it
You're fooling around
I can't stand it
You're running around
I stand it
You're playing around
I can't stand it
You're fooling around
I can't stand it
You're running around
I can't stand it
You're fooling around
I won't stand it
You're fooling around
I won't stand it
You're fooling around
I won't stand it
Playing around
I won't stand it
You're running around with my heart
You're fooling around with my heart

True, and they were learners, and sometimes imitators. I like Jeremy Spencer's contributions to FM, and think he's pretty good on bottleneck, but there's no doubt he's imitating Elmore James in a way Peter Green isn't imitating B. B. King or Albert King or Otis Rush. The Yardbirds were one of my favorite groups in high school, and I still love them. They didn't have the soul Greeny does, but their version of blues was terrific rock (especially live). I don't think they were insincere though.

Peter Green is of such unparalleled genius and feel that everyone associated with this song does a fabulous--as near perfect as humanly possible--job with their respective instruments/roles as well.

As far as great blues pieces go, this one never fails to take me out at the knees. Peter Green was truly something special.

Great post, and thank you for the otis rush recommendation. I've listened to a lot of blues, but there are always some gems to uncover, and that was one. But, to be honest, I've never listened to anyone, albeit otis rush, albert king, robert johnson, or any other of the like, that has captured the mood of the blues as vividly as Peter Green.

hooptyhee1, let's be honest, the accusations lobbed at British blues players in the sixties that they were "inauthentic", came from black militants and snobby white jazz critics. However, they do have a point.... many British groups at the time, whether blues bands, pop groups, or singers, came across as desperate to copy American music. They had sincere love of American music, but they often came across to Americans as insincere. Americans in the 50's laughed at the English trying to play rock.
